Dr. Doretha D. Allen, is a resident of Emporia, Virginia and a native of Rembert, South Carolina. She is a graduate of Hillcrest High School located in Dalzell, South Carolina. She and her husband of 43 years, Elder Charlie E. Allen, are the parents of three sons: Sheldon Earl, Charles Bernard and Andrew Kirkland Allen. They have six God children.
Doretha and Charlie are the founders of Berean Light Ministries and Berean Light Bible Institute located at 413 Ingleside Avenue in Emporia, Virginia. They have been pastoring for eight years. Together, their ministry tenure spans an astounding 88 years of kingdom service. Having been saved since the ages of 17 and 19 respectively, they actually grew up in Christ together.
Dr. Allen received her spiritual tutoring and training under the leadership of the late Apostle Dr. Martha S. Parker, of the Way of The Cross Churches of the Apostolic Faith, Inc., located in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Dr. Allen's experience is broad. Dr. Parker saw the qualities of leadership in her and entrusted her with a number of responsibilities at The Way of the Cross Churches including, Overseer, Elder, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Worship and Praise Leader, M.S. Parker Bible School Instructor, Senior Director of the Choir and Conference Secretary. These responsibilities groomed her for the leadership role she currently performs.
As an intercessor and visionary, she was instrumental in the origin of The Way of the Cross Sister-to-Sister Ministry which in turn, has given birth to the Berean Light Ministries Women’s Fellowship Encounter which is held annually in the month of March and continues to grow in attendance and influence from year to year. In addition, she birthed out the intercessory prayer group, “Anna’s Heart”, and the Praise and Worship Team, “Inner Court”. As a result, extraordinary intercessory prayer and powerful life changing praise and worship has evolved.

Dr. Allen studied Human Services at Southside Virginia Community College. She graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Religious Education Degree and Master of Religious Education Degree from the Interdenominational Bible Institute and holds a Doctor of Divinity from the Spirit of Truth Bible Institute located in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Doretha D. Allen is a visionary leader, teacher, author, wife, and mother. As an inspired author, she has written three books: The Dynamics of Discipleship, Called to Serve, and Five-Fold Ministry Gifts: The Biblical Method. As a gifted preacher and teacher, Dr. Allen is much sought after as a workshop facilitator, revivalist and conference speaker.
She is the producer of the “Berean Call”, a provocative radio program aired on WEVA 860 AM which broadcasts on 2nd, 4th, and 5th Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM and on WHLQ 105.5 FM every Sunday morning at 8:30 AM.
